Partner Summit - Nov 11, 8:30am-4:30pm

Waukesha County Public Health develops a Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) every five years to enhance the community's health. The CHIP Steering Committee, consisting of a diverse group of Health and Human Services employees and community members from various sectors such as healthcare, government, nonprofits, businesses, education, and faith-based organizations, drives this initiative.

The CHIP process actively engages community members who collect and analyze health data. This data forms the basis for informed decision-making, prioritizing health issues, and crafting actionable plans aimed at boosting community health outcomes.

CHIP Vision: Waukesha County is an inclusive and well-connected community supporting all people, embracing diversity, ensuring equitable access to services, and creating social, physical, and economic environments that promote health, well-being and quality of life.

The strategic health priorities for the 2022 - 2026 cycle are:

  • Mental Health
  • Substance Use
  • Healthy Aging

2025 - The Intersection of Substance Use and Housing

This paper was developed by Hailey Nenonen, a Master of Public Health intern with Waukesha County Public Health. During her field placement, Hailey conducted qualitative research exploring the connection between housing instability and substance use, presenting her findings as part of her internship project.

Her research highlights how secure housing can be a critical factor in recovery, how housing instability often worsens health outcomes, and the importance of coordinated services to better support individuals navigating both challenges. The insights shed light on opportunities for local agencies and community partners to strengthen collaboration and improve access to resources.

We’re proud to share her work and celebrate the valuable perspective she contributed. You can also see how we highlighted Hailey’s project on LinkedIn.
