Pregnancy & Child Health Programs

Waukesha County offers free programs to help families with young children and pregnant women. Nurses visit homes to give health information and checkups for kids. They can also connect families to local services. Pregnant women get support and advice on nutrition, baby care, and breastfeeding. Enroll in our Healthy Pregnancy, Child Health or Breastfeeding programs by filling out the referral form:

The Healthy Pregnancy Program is a home visiting program for expecting parents and women to help gain access to medical, social, educational, and other services during their pregnancy. Waukesha County offers these services at no cost to families.

Through a series of appointments with a registered nurse, you will receive information on:

  • Blood Pressure, weight measurements, and newborn checks
  • Coordinate services along with physician’s care.
  • Offer nutritional information and education on pregnancy topics of interest.
  • Personalized visits to fit your family's needs
  • Community resources including:
    • Healthcare providers
    • Dental Care
    • WIC
    • Counseling
    • Transportation
    • Food Access
    • Discomforts of pregnancy
    • Preterm labor
    • Labor and delivery
    • Taking care of your newborn
    • Breastfeeding
    • Emotional wellbeing
    • Parenting and additional information as needed.

How to get started:

Step 1

Step 2                                                                                                   
A Waukesha County Public Health nurse will meet with your family in your home or other location that works for you. Visits can be scheduled to fit your needs. 

Step 3                                                                                                   
Continuous care and connection is our goal at Waukesha County Public Health. You'll work together with your nurse to make sure your family is on track to a healthy lifestyle while staying connected to community resources.  

The Child Health and Parenting program is a home visiting program for families with babies or young children. A nurse will work with families to provide information on your child’s health and development. Waukesha County Public Health offers this program at no cost to families who live in Waukesha County.

Through a series of appointments with a registered nurse, you will receive information on:

  • Health and development screenings
  • Height and weigh measurements
  • Personalized visits for your family needs
  • Community resources including:
    • Healthcare providers
    • Dental Care
    • WIC
    • Counseling
    • Transportation
    • Food Access
    • Early intervention programs
    • Parenting and additional information as needed.

The Breastfeeding Support Program is a home visiting program where a nurse can provide breastfeeding assistance and resources within your home or other preferred location. Waukesha County offers these services at no cost to families.

Through a series of appointments with a registered nurse, you will receive information on:

  • Lactation support within the home or telephone consultation as needed.
  • Blood Pressure, weight measurements, and newborn checks as requested.
  • Offer lactation information and resources on breast/chestfeeding topics of interest.
  • Personalized visits to fit your family's needs
  • Community resources including:
    • Healthcare providers
    • Dental Care
    • WIC
    • Counseling
    • Transportation
    • Food Access
    • Early intervention programs
    • Parenting and additional information as needed.
