National Preparedness Month - Competition
FEMA’s Ready Campaign has observed National Preparedness Month since 2004 to encourage Americans to prepare for emergencies. The month is a great time to take small steps to make a big difference in being prepared.
This year’s National Preparedness Month theme is Americans Stand Ready.
When Americans take steps to prepare for disasters and keep their families safe, every neighborhood and community is more resilient. Throughout National Preparedness Month in September, FEMA will celebrate and encourage American resourcefulness and civic responsibility.
This year’s theme will focus on several distinct ideas that capture how Americans take pride in their ability to protect themselves and their families and work together to recover from disasters:

Americans stand ready to uphold our patriotic duty: When individuals are prepared and self-reliant, we can bolster the work of our brave first responders who help people on their worst day.

Americans stand ready to protect our family and friends: We know best how to keep our loved ones safe when things go wrong.

Americans stand ready to help our communities: Taking a proactive approach to get your community ready contributes to the nation’s resilience.

Complete all three quizzes to test your preparedness knowledge:

How to Participate

Complete each quiz between September 11, 2026, and September 30, 2026.

All quizzes close at 11:59 p.m. on September 30, 2026.

Participants must reside within or be employed by Waukesha County.

Participants may take each quiz only once.

Winners will be determined by the highest combined score across all three quizzes and announced the following week.
Scoring and Prizes
Participants earn points for each correct answer. Scores from all three quizzes will be combined, and the three participants with the highest total scores will receive:
1st Place - Mission BBQ Gift Basket
2nd Place - $50 Kwik Trip Gift Card
3rd & 4th Place - Kwik Trip Gift Card for 5 Elite Car Washes & Mission BBQ Items
Consolation prizes may also be awarded.

Taking preparedness actions before disasters happen is essential to keeping you and your family safe. Actions you can take include understanding the threats you may face, preparing emergency plans, building supply kits, and ensuring you can access weather alerts and warnings. By preparing ahead, you can reduce disaster impacts and recover faster when they occur.

Knowing what to do during a disaster is crucial to keeping yourself and others safe. Being informed helps you act quickly and correctly, reducing injury risk and minimizing the disaster's impact. Preparedness helps you stay calm, be adaptable, make better decisions, and recover quickly from emergencies.

Knowing what to do after a disaster is crucial to ensuring your recovery and helping others recover. Being informed lets you act quickly and correctly, reducing the risk of further injury and speeding up rebuilding. Post-disaster preparedness helps you stay calm, be adaptable, make informed decisions, and support a smoother return to normalcy.

TERMS & CONDITIONS
Eligibility: Participants must be residents or employees of Waukesha County to be eligible for prize winnings or drawings.
Submission Limit: Participants are restricted to one submission per quiz. Any additional submissions will result in Waukesha County Emergency Management selecting the earliest completed submission for consideration.
Prize Notification: Participants must respond to prize notification communications within one (1) week. Waukesha County Emergency Management reserves the right to select a new winner if no response is received within this timeframe.
By completing the online Form and submitting an entry, each contestant agrees: they have read, understand, and will comply with the official rules; and, or to the extent permitted by law, consent to the use of the entrant's name, likeness and/or biographical date for advertising and promotion by Waukesha County Office of Emergency Management, without further consent, compensations, or approval.
Submitted materials become the property of the Waukesha County Office of Emergency Management. By submitting a photograph to the Waukesha County Office of Emergency Management, the photographer grants Waukesha County Office of Emergency Management the unrestricted right to use, adapt, modify, reproduce, distribute, and publicly display, in any form now known or later developed.
